Acclimation Information

Our coral is grown under 250 watt 20,000K HQI Metal Halides supplemented with T5-HO actinic+ and Pure actinic lighting.

Our frags are housed under 250 watt 20,000K Metal Halide lighting supplemented with T-5 HO actinic+ and pure actinic lighting.

Please acclimate your new acquisitions with care.

  1. Coral should be floated in the tank or sump for a minimum of 10-15 minutes to allow the temperature in the bag to match that of the tank water. Turn off intense or bright lighting during this time. This will reduce heat transfer to the bag as well as help reduce any potential photoshock.
  2. Carefully remove the coral from the bag; please handle the coral tissue as little as possible. Discard the bag water, DO NOT pour water from the bag in your aquarium.
  3. Place the coral as low in the tank as possible, making sure to keep space between the new coral and other corals in the tank. Chemical warfare is invisible to the naked eye and should be considered when placing aquarium inhabitants.
  4. Frags MUST be acclimated slowly to high lighting or different types of lighting. Leave the frag at a lower lighting level to begin with and over the course of 1-2 weeks it can be moved up until the desired location in the tank is reached.

Keep lighting low or off for 4-6 hours to allow the coral time to acclimate to water parameters.

A drip method can be employed for acclimation as well, however Aquarium Innovations finds that coral has excellent resilience and actually expends more energy acclimating to the constantly changing conditions in the bag while the water parameters change over the course of time in the shipping water. By placing coral directly into clean water with good parameters and keeping lighting dimmed, the coral can dedicate energy to acclimating to one new set of parameters, rather than variable conditions for a prolonged amount of time.

Aquarium Innovations recommends using a quarantine tank.
